The Five Best Things about Being a College Student

Going to college isn’t for everyone – but anyone will admit: it’s better than high school! From preparing students for career success, to making everyone feel welcome, life on campus is a whole new world full of endless opportunities. Here are just five great aspects of university life:

  1. You’re on the road to success – and you have a support group to keep you on track. It’s true, you can slide by in the back of the classroom, and your professors aren’t going to call a parent-teacher conference to help you – but if you really want to get somewhere with your career (and you make an effort), your professors are going to support you every step of the way. It is likely that your university even has free student services, like tutoring, to help you out. The whole school is rooting for you: you just have to make it happen.
  1. You have a newfound freedom – not just in the obvious sense of independence as an adult, but you can also be yourself more than was socially acceptable in high school. In college, there are thousands of new and diverse people. They all dress, speak, and express themselves uniquely – and you can too! You’ll become friends with people who share your obsession interest in indie rock or turtlenecks.
  1. You are surrounded by people who share your passions. Are you a book nerd? So are all the other English majors. Love practicing for hours on end? So do all of your fellow music majors. You become completely immersed in an environment filled with people who have the same quirks, aspirations, and dreams as you. You’re constantly learning – and enjoying every step of the way!
  1. You have the chance to try all those things you wished you had done in high school. You were in eleventh grade when you decided you wanted to join the chess club – but by then it was obviously too late to get in on the action. Now is your chance to get involved! It’s one of the best things about university life: you get to join any club you want (and there’s still no judgment).
  1. You find yourself. In just my first semester of college, I discovered that I’m an introvert, found my true calling, and even changed my major. I figured out what I want in a friend, and what time I study best. I learned so much about myself that I had never thought of before – and it was great. For the first time, I felt like I knew myself. It was eye opening and amazing, and while you don’t have to go to college to find yourself, self-discovery is encouraged and nurtured in the right university environment.
